Hello CSA Members,
Happy Holidays to you all. I am emailing early this week because we are delivering a day early!!
We will be doing the delivery on Tuesday the 23rd
this week instead of Wednesday. It
would be great to have your orders by Sunday evening but we will do our best to
accommodate late orders. The
delivery time will be the same.
We are sad that this is our last delivery of 2014. What a great year. This week will mark our 37th
delivery week for CSA! We are so
grateful for all your support.
However, we are ready to take a break and work on lots of
other projects. We are in the
process of putting up a new website which will have all the information for the
2015 CSA season. Look for the new
website in the beginning of January.
Mike has finished construction of the new greenhouse and now
we just have to build the growing tables and put in the heat source. We will begin starting seeds February 1st.
I will be busy in the office for the next month, ordering
seeds and making a plan for 2015. I
love this time of year.
And of course we will be at the West Reading Farmers Market
every other Saturday through the winter except for the 3rd week in
January when we will be on vacation.
We wish you all a happy and healthy winter. We hope for just enough snow to make
things beautiful but not enough to make us all miserable.
We will post the weekly email on our blog: http://bhorganics.blogspot.com/ if
you cannot check your email or erase the email feels free to check the blog for
the week’s list. The blog can be
linked through our website www.bhorganicproduce.com.
Don’t forget to pick up your box. It may help to set an alarm on your phone. At the West Reading site we have a
family that comes at 9 pm to clean up the porch. I had to do this so that I can get some sleep. I am crazy and I would worry about
those boxes all night. Sorry.
The Hartz pick up is at 211 Twin County Rd (RT10)
Morgantown, PA from 2 pm till 6 pm.
The West Reading Pick up is at 330 Franklin St 3pm till 8 pm.

High Energy:
As a farmer, foodie and vegetable lover I am always
interested in the “energetics” of food.
Essentially this means when a vegetable is at its “peak.” If you are stuck in your ways but want
to try something new I highly recommend choosing something new from this
list. Here are the foods at their
highest energy level this week:
·
Potatoes
·
Tatsoi
·
Collards
·
Watermelon radishes
·
Carrots
·
Beets
·
Cabbage
·
Kale
Recipes:
Best of the winter
vegetables:
It is the last week and I feel like I have already listed
all the veggies at least once this year.
So this week I thought I would share my favorite recipes for this time
of year. Which just to warn you is
a lot of soup because it seems like that is all I want to eat in the
winter.
·
Sweet Potato and Carrot Chili – (I made this recipe
this week and loved it! It does
call for ground beef but I bet it would be great with Tempeh.) http://www.tastesoflizzyt.com/2014/09/24/paleo-sweet-potato-chili/
·
African Peanut stew- (I prefer this with
collards as well.) http://www.cleaneatingmag.com/recipes/dinner-tonight/african-peanut-stew/
·
Kale, Carrot and Avocado Salad: http://www.wholefoodsmarket.com/recipe/kale-carrot-and-avocado-salad
