CSA 10/9

Hello CSA Members,

Only 4 weeks left of the summer session of the CSA.  We only have 4 openings left for the Late Season CSA.

The fall crops are coming in well.  We are truly blessed.  It seems the eggplants finally got the memo that they were planted in order to produce fruit.  We plant 6 different varieties in order to have eggplants coming in at different times throughout the late summer and fall.  Planning according to Mother Nature is kind of a joke.  All the eggplant varieties are ready at the same time.  So it is time to make Baba Ghanouj!  And it freezes extremely well.

Do the peppers being mostly green frustrate you?  The reason for this is that we lost our entire first planting in a late frost (actually the plants froze solid) in May.  We planted again but it was late and so the peppers aren’t having enough time and warm nights to change colors.  It helps to keep them in the paper bags for a couple of days in your refrigerator.  In most cases they will then turn the beautiful shades you are interested in.  Unfortunately, most of the peppers we had to replace the lost plants were yellow and purple, not red.

With the large list (26 items!) below I hope it is hard to decide what to order this week.  It is our goal to give you the biggest selection that Mother Nature will allow.  All of our hard work this season is coming to Fruit- ion.  I just hope I can keep my tired staff motivated to keep picking.

You can order by replying to the email or by emailing bhorganicscsa@gmail.com.  The orders must be in by Tuesday at 2 pm.  Processing the orders takes some time so I would appreciate no late orders.
