Hello CSA Members,
Our Annual CSA Potluck is Saturday September 13th
at 4 pm. Mark it on your
calendars!
We would love to have you all come to our CSA Potluck. It is a great chance to see the farm
and to connect with other members.
We will be giving a tour at 4:30 pm so try to come early. Dinner will follow the tour. It is a potluck and we strongly
encourage you to cook from your CSA box.
I am always inspired by what I eat at the potluck. After all it is all about the
food.
We will post the weekly email on our blog: http://bhorganics.blogspot.com/
Don’t forget to pick up your box. It may help to set an alarm on your phone. At the West Reading site we have a
family that comes at 9 pm to clean up the porch. I had to do this so that I can get some sleep. I am crazy and I would worry about
those boxes all night. Sorry.
Help:
If you have any questions please feel free to email me at bhorganicscsa@gmail.com or call

list. Here are the foods at their
highest energy level this week:

Recipes:
Garlic
Everyone loves garlic right? Wrong. Garlic
can be hard to digest and can be smelly at times. However, if the garlic is roasted it tends to become sweet
and much easier to digest. Roasted
Garlic can then be used in many of your traditional recipes without the garlic
kick but all the sweetness and flavor.
The garlic variety we grow is Purple Stripe and it won the
Rodale taste test for best baking / roasting garlic. The Purple Stripe variety
does not have the largest cloves but we feel it has superior flavor. We hope you agree.
Garlic is planted in the fall and harvested mid June. After we harvest the garlic we store it
in our barn for about 3 weeks to “cure.”
The curing processing then allows the garlic to be stored for the
winter. This garlic, if stored in
the right conditions, should last till March. After curing, garlic actually likes to be stored at a
very cool temperature, 34 degrees and does require some humidity. It is best to store it in the paper bag
in the crisper drawer of your refrigerator.
