Spring CSA 4/16

Hello CSA Members,

The last few days have been wonderful.  I hope this email finds you all well and not sunburned.  It is so hard not to want to soak up all that Vitamin D after many months of little sunshine.
We have finally been able to get into most of our fields to till and plant.  It is all coming very fast and I am so excited.  The potato seed arrived this week and the tomato plants are bursting out of the greenhouse!  As a farmer I couldn’t be happier.

Our first delivery went very well.  Everyone picked up and we are very grateful.
Please read the policies we have listed below the recipes for additional pick up information.
There was a typo below in the ordering location.  The Spring CSA is actually 5 items per week but the email said 6.  We made sure everyone got 6 items to be fair.  We had the product so we were happy to share it with all of you as a great way to start the season!

If you have any questions please feel free to email me at bhorganiccsa@gmail.com or call 484-955-1098.  I also am available to receive text messages at this phone number.

If you do not see an email from us feel free to check our blog where we will post the same email for you each week. http://bhorganics.blogspot.com/

Don’t forget to pick up your produce!  It may help to set an alarm on your phone.

You can order by replying to the email or by emailing bhorganicscsa@gmail.com.  The orders must be in by Tuesday at 2 pm.  Processing the orders takes some time so I would appreciate no late orders.

Recipes:
Mache / aka Corn Salad.
Mache is a tender green that loves to grow in the winter.  It is actually the only green that can be cut when it is frozen and still make a great salad.  Mache is very hard to grow in these parts because it loves to grow when it is cold but in order to do that we need to plant when it is hot and mache does not like to be hot.  It is best eaten raw to taste the tender sweet flavor but can be slightly wilted as well.  We are offering a small amount because it is a delicacy and very labor intensive to harvest.  This green won’t be around long so this is a good time to try it.

Policies
• You must arrange with us before your delivery day to change your time and location of pick up.
• Produce not picked up at the end of the pick up time will be donated.  We have families designated for each of our pick up locations to collect the produce leftover after delivery.
• Keep in mind that the closer to the start of the time window you can pick up, the better, as your produce will stay fresher the sooner you can get it into your fridge (with the exception of tomatoes!).
• Produce is packed in boxes and delivered to a central location in your neighborhood. Please flatten and return boxes in usable condition from the previous week when picking up your next delivery. Please do not take the boxes home.
• If you would like to return pint and quart boxes we would be happy to take them. However, due to our organic certification we must insist that the boxes came from our farm. We are unable to take plastic bags.

We really appreciate you and could not do it with out you.
Thank you,
Erica
